Social Track with Skoll and Nando’s: Employment for Good

Are you a DPhil or Master’s student who wants to use your research skills to tackle a pressing social challenge? Edge Challenges is a new applied programme for Oxford postgraduates, delivered with external partners to tackle live, real-world challenges.
As part of the Skoll Centre pathway, you’ll work with Nando’s, the South African, family-owned business employing more than 40,000 people worldwide. You’ll join a live organisational lab to explore how employment can create better life chances, working with partners in Africa, Australia, and the UK.

At a time when increasing numbers of young people are excluded from work, education and training, this Challenge focuses on what gets in the way and what might work better.
From 25 February to 15 April, you’ll work once a week in a small, interdisciplinary team, developing research-informed insights with impact beyond the University.

Whatever your discipline, you don’t need prior experience in this area. Bring your research mindset, your methods, and your curiosity.

What you’ll do

  • Explore how employment decisions shape not just jobs but long-term life chances across the globe.
  • Connect with Nando’s leaders, community partners and social innovators.
  • Apply your research to test ideas that could shape how Nando’s recruits, supports and progresses young people as it grows.

What you’ll gain

  • The chance to help shape a new blueprint for employing for good.
  • Insight into how research skills can be applied to create real-world impact.
  • Insight into social innovation and impact-led careers.

📅 Applications close 5pm on 18 February
