ZERO Institute Founders Programme: Application Deadline

The ZERO Institute at the University of Oxford is launching its inaugural Founders Programme — three paid, year-long residential posts for entrepreneurs ready to develop and commercialise a world-changing climate tech venture, beginning October 2026.

The programme is designed to bridge one of the biggest gaps in climate entrepreneurship: helping researchers make the transition from academic environment into commercial ones. Each founder will receive dedicated support to translate promising research from lab to market, building a venture with a clear unique selling point, protected intellectual property, and a fully developed commercialisation plan.

What the programme offers:

  • Access to University of Oxford laboratories and facilities
  • A dedicated academic sponsor from within the University
  • Business development and incubation support
  • Cohort activities and peer community
  • Access to the wider ZERO Institute and University of Oxford networks
  • A salary of £49,119 – £58,265 per annum (Grade 8)

To apply you will need to submit:

  • An application form detailing your innovation idea, market understanding, and proposed plan (max 2,000 words)
  • A CV detailing your research, innovation track record, and core skills
  • A supporting statement of up to two pages
  • A letter of support from an Oxford faculty member as your Academic Sponsor

Applications are welcomed from candidates both within and outside the University. The three posts are supported by Breakthrough Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, Oxford Science Enterprises, and additional funding partners.
