Who?
Emily Middleton, Senior Software Engineer at Viator with 'The Pendulum in Action':
In 2020, a blog post by a fellow woman in tech reshaped how Emily viewed her career. This talk explores her journey on both sides of the engineering and management pendulum, highlighting the benefits of embracing diverse roles. She will also share other valuable advice she's followed from inspiring women across the industry.
and
Ruth Trevor-Allen, Engineering Manager at Nominet with '5 Lessons I learned the hard way':
Ruth Trevor-Allen has been tinkering with software for more than 15 years, racking up experience of multiple sectors, management styles, and mutually-exclusive "essential requirements"* on a journey that began at "completely lost" but has now reached "still learning". In this talk, she shares some of her most notable non-successes in the hope that others can profit from her past failures and learn from her mistakes the easy way.
*If anyone in the audience turns out to have a solution to the whole "mutually exclusive essentials and a target deadline of yesterday" scenario, Ruth is happy for them to share that with the group.
